Steel Erector

Job Summary: Steel erector is responsible for safely unloading, staging, rigging, hoisting, connecting, aligning, and securing structural steel components on commercial and industrial projects. This role works at heights and in varying weather conditions to assemble beams, columns, joists, decking, and miscellaneous metals according to plans and specifications while maintaining strict safety, quality, and productivity standards.

Job Duties:

• Unload, stage, and organize structural steel and related materials at the jobsite
• Rig steel members and direct crane operations using proper signals and communication
• Set and connect columns, beams, girders, joists, and bracing using bolts, pins, and other connectors
• Plumb, level, align, and fit steel components to meet tolerances and project specifications
• Install metal decking, shear studs, stairs, ladders, handrails, embeds, and other miscellaneous metals (as assigned)
• Perform bolting operations, including installation of high-strength bolts and assisting with final bolt-up per specifications
• Perform torch cutting, grinding, drilling, and field fitting/modifications as needed
• Install temporary bracing and maintain safe erection sequences to ensure structural stability
• Read and interpret structural drawings, erection plans, and layout marks; supervisor direction and project schedule
• Inspect connections and installed members for proper placement, tightness, and overall quality
• Maintain tools and equipment
• Follow all safety requirements: fall protection, aerial lifts/forklifts, rigging practices, and jobsite rules

Position report to: General Superintendent/Project Superintendent

Hours: 7:00am-3:30pm (Hours may vary depending on job)

Schedule: Monday-Friday (Saturday-Sunday depending on job)

Job Locations: Varies depending on project location, typically within a 60 air mile radius of Faribault, MN

Pay: $27+ (depending on experience)
